Google ScraperHave you ever found your written content on another businesses website? Scraper sites, which are websites that copy content from others, have been around for many years. However, it’s still extremely frustrating to find your content on another website. Often, scraper sites will rank above the website with the original content, which makes the problem even more frustrating for the publisher.

Last week, Google announced a new tool that allows you to report scraper sites that steal your content. The new tool, known as the Scraper Report Form, can potentially decrease the amount of scraper sites and give valuable insight for Google.

When using Google’s Scraper Report Form, the original publisher must give the original content URL, the URL of the scraper site, and the keywords used to prompt the outranking. Then the tool will ask if your website is following Google Webmaster Guidelines, which must be confirmed with the checkbox.

In the past, the only way to remove stolen content from Google’s search results was to file a DMCA. While the Google Scraper Report Form doesn’t fix the problem immediately, it’s much faster than using Google’s time-consuming DMCA system to remove the content.

The Google Scraper Report Form enables Google’s spam team to label the stolen content as a spam offense instead of a copyright issue, which allows Google to make sure the original content shows up first, and potentially remove the stolen content.

While Google hasn’t announced what will happen to the data collected from the new tool, it’s likely going to be used to improve Google’s ability to decide why scrapers are ranking above original content. Then, Google can potentially change their algorithm to automatically remove scraper sites from search results. For original content publishers, the tool will likely increase the amount of search engine traffic to your website.
